Karin / Chibi Vampire

Karin or Chibi Vampire by Kagesaki Yuna is an awesome series. It explores all of the characters even if they were 200 years from the past. But that's just the manga. The anime definitely did not do much justice to the manga. But Winner-kun's adorable with his silly accent.

Karin's a blood producing vampire, in contrast to the normal blood-sucking ones. Mention Edward Cullen here and I'll fucking kill you. Unlike her family, she lives in the day while they live at night. Her family does not glitter in the sunlight. They get burned. Since this is not a summary but more to my thoughts of the manga, there might be a few spoilers here and there but no summaries. It's not difficult to marathon 14 volumes. You only need time and interest. I did mention that the anime was not really good but it piqued my interest enough to check the manga. I was more curious about Ren, the enemy of women but also the loving tsundere brother of the Maaka / Marker family.

All the characters here are extremely lovable, except for a few bitches in the ending. It ranges from Maaka Karin to Usui Kenta to almost everyone else! Even Anju's Boogy-kun is... cute...
According to Anju (Karin's younger sister), Boogy-kun's doll holds the spirit of a serial killer who's favourite weapon's a knife. Yeah, bloody bloody mess.
OTL

The manga plays heavily on the family theme. Basically everyone in the family's always on the lookout for Karin, especially Anju. As mentioned, Karin's different from normal vampires. Instead of sucking blood, she gives it out. There are two options, she either injects it into someone or have a fantastic nosebleed. No, her nosebleeds do not turn into flower petals unlike Ronove from Umineko though it'll be kinda cool if it did. All the vampires lust after a certain kind of blood. Karin reacts to "unhappiness", Ren [Elder brother] to "stress", Anju [Younger sister] to "loneliness", Carela [Mother] to "liars" and Henry [Father] for "pride".

The series kicks off with Karin reacting to Kenta, a new transfer student in her school. He catches her injecting blood into a random salary man and thinks she's into teen prostitution. Since Kenta causes her blood to react, Karin runs away whenever Kenta approaches her thus arousing his suspicion even more. He decides to investigate Karin as to why she keeps running from him. The second time Kenta sees her "in action" is by witnessing her bite his mother who is often depressed. However, after she was bitten, she seemed to turn very... energetic which further urged Kenta's curiosity. In the end, after a series of events planned by Anju, he discovers that Karin is INDEED a vampire. Aaaaaaaaaaaand the story begins!

As mentioned, Karin/ Chibi Vampire plays on the family theme very heavily. Ren may not seem to care about Karin at first but when he knows she's in danger, he's quick to leave the hotel room along with a poor damsel in it to save her. It's normally at Anju's notification though. Ren is often seem being more affectionate with Anju rather than Karin because it seems that she's a failure as a vampire. Yep, having grown fangs yet still being able to walk around during day is unacceptable as a vampire. It's obvious that Anju cares for Karin a lot. Anju's said to be a prodigy in future as she can control bats easily. She uses these bats to watch over Karin during the day when the rest of the family cannot move. She's the one who got Kenta to take care of Karin during the day too! Carela and Henry.. Well, they try hard to figure out Karin's condition. Elda, Karin's grandmother, is very protective of her son, Henry. There are times that she seems like a bitch character to Karin in one part of the manga but that was simply because she wanted to guarantee Karin's happiness because children born between vampires and humans are xxxxxxx. It's not that half-bloods are opposed because of that but there are also other reasons. It's also the cause of Elda's hatred to humanity and the very reason why vampires migrated to Japan.

Not to say I support Ren preying on women but..... OTL

I do like the innocence between Kenta and Karin though Maki has to help them move forward sometimes. For example, Kenta doesn't know what a hickey is. Young man, your mind is far too pure. Maki is Karin's best friend ever since childhood. In an effort to move the relationship forward, she has Kenta read shoujo manga. She even asked him to check out porn in his classmates house which he denied invitation by giving the excuse that students are to study. Kenta, if all students were like you... ... ............... WE WOULDN'T BE HAVING SOCIAL PROBLEMS!!!!!!!! *cries*

Overall, Karin's awesome. I rarely marathon manga series because seriously, it hurts to sit down too long (I'll be frank, my ass hurts) and just read. So far this year I've caught up with The World Only God Knows, Trinity Blood, Karin, The Tyrant Falls In Love (Upon recommendation), and a few more which isn't as long as the ones mentioned. In short, Karin was really worth my time. It may seem a little cliche at times but you'd probably be so caught up in the moment till you don't really notice it. Plus, the comments by Kagesaki Yuna is pretty hilarious. She talks about the manga chapter while they were drawing it, teases the editors and a lot more. She also explains why "vampires that nosebleed" and so on. Give it a try. 58 chapters won't kill. But Naruto, Bleach and KHR would for sure. I'm thankful that I caught KHR at an early phase though. Plus the fact that the anime's pretty faithful is GOOD unlike certain series especially the ones starting with "N" and "B".
